The maturity rank is based on a company's overall maturity score compared to other companies in the same industry (over 50 companies) in Illuminem's database. Higher maturity result in a higher rank.
Companies at the early stage of their sustainability journey are usually just starting to recognize the importance of sustainability. Their goals are often compliance-driven, cost-saving, or reputation-based, rather than deeply integrated into their core business strategy. Example solutions include services to comply with regulations, compliance software, consulting services, energy management & efficiency to reduce cost, certifications etc.
Companies with high sustainability maturity have deeply integrated sustainability into their core strategy and view it as a competitive advantage. Sustainability is not just a compliance requirement but a business driver that aligns with long-term value creation. Progress against targets
ⓈCompany sustainability reportIn 2023, VTT's projected greenhouse gas emissions increased by 16% from the previous year due to increased travel and new emission categories. Direct (Scope 1) emissions increased due to more accurate calculations, while Scope 2 emissions decreased by 22% due to switching to green district heating and fossil-free electricity. Scope 3 emissions increased mainly due to air travel and new emission categories. The biggest challenge is reducing increased indirect emissions.
