Tethys Oil has made progress towards reducing GHG emissions through several initiatives. In 2023, the Gas-to-Power project reached milestones aimed at capturing gas that would otherwise be vented or flared, significantly decreasing GHG emissions by eliminating routine flaring and reducing diesel consumption for stationary combustion. Additionally, CCED, the operator of Blocks 3&4, has implemented solar systems at remote production wells, reducing GHG emissions by 9,000 tonnes. Solar applications are also used for road lighting in camps and remote transmission units, saving 700 litres of diesel per day. However, a study on using solar power for certain pumps (ESP) was found not viable, and alternative technologies are being explored. Further studies are ongoing to expand solar power use in contractor camps, workshops, wells, and rigs.
