- Pingdingshan Tianan Coal Mining Co (Shanghai-listed 601666.SH, listed coking coal arm of China Pingmei Shenma Holding Group, central China's largest metallurgical coal supplier) suffered the January 12, 2024 coal-and-gas outburst at its No 12 mine in Pingdingshan Henan Province which killed 16 workers and injured 5 (425 workers were underground; mine managers were taken into police custody), with the December 2024 Ministry of Emergency Management investigation holding 39 people accountable, citing tunneling malpractice, fining Pingdingshan Tianan RMB 9 million, temporarily suspending the mine's operating licence and listing the company as a serious safety-production violator.
