Progress against targets

BHP has made progress towards its net zero target by implementing early action plans and structural abatement strategies. The company has achieved a 41% reduction in GHG emission intensity for BHP-chartered shipping compared to the CY2008 baseline. BHP has also chartered additional dual-fuelled LNG vessels to further reduce emissions. However, the company acknowledges challenges in achieving significant reductions in Scope 3 emissions in the medium term due to current estimation methods and the complexity of influencing value chain emissions. BHP continues to engage with suppliers to align their targets with its net zero goals and is exploring additional GHG emission abatement options.
