In 2023, KONE made significant progress on its emission reduction targets, achieving a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2018 levels, surpassing its target of 17%. This was achieved through improved energy efficiency, renewable electricity, and transitioning to lower-emission vehicles. KONE also achieved carbon-neutral manufacturing units globally, 18 months ahead of schedule, with a reduction of 81% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by the end of 2023 compared to the 2018 baseline. Additionally, KONE exceeded its 2023 target to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations by 21% from a 2019 baseline, achieving a reduction of almost 27%. The company continues to implement an internal carbon cost to encourage the transition towards carbon neutrality. KONE's absolute product and value chain emissions decreased by 1.8% in 2023, as part of its long-term Scope 3 emission reduction target for 2030.
