- United Breweries Ltd (NSE/BSE-listed India's largest brewer, Kingfisher beer, Heineken-controlled ~61% since 2021) faced the September 2021 sustained Competition Commission of India (CCI) penalty of approximately INR 750 crore (USD 100+ million) on United Breweries for price-fixing cartelisation in Indian beer sales 2009 to 2018 (alongside Carlsberg India and AB InBev's SABMiller India, coordinated through the All India Brewers Association), plus the sustained Vijay Mallya fugitive-promoter legacy: Mallya's UB Group shares were seized/sold by Indian lenders and SEBI barred Mallya from securities markets after his 2016 flight to the UK over Kingfisher Airlines' INR 9,000+ crore loan default, with Heineken taking control of United Breweries in 2021.
