AstraZeneca has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 67.6% since 2015, achieving a reduction of 420 kilotonnes CO2e. The company is on plan to meet its targets, with a significant increase in the use of primary data and suppliers setting science-based targets (SBTs) to support future absolute emissions reductions towards the 2030 target. However, total Scope 3 emissions have increased by 18.6% from a 2019 baseline, although Scope 3 intensity has been reduced by 24%. The company is working to tackle 20% of its Scope 3 footprint through the development of a next-generation pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) with a near-zero Global Warming Potential (GWP).
