  • The company's Southern California Gas (SoCalGas) subsidiary was responsible for the October 2015 Aliso Canyon blowout near Porter Ranch, Los Angeles, the largest methane leak in U.S. history, which released approximately 100,000 tonnes of methane over nearly four months, forced the temporary relocation of thousands of residents, and led to a $1.8 billion settlement in 2021 with more than 35,000 affected residents plus a separate ~$120 million settlement with California state and local authorities.
