- Eni SpA, its CEO Claudio Descalzi, and the broader management team were acquitted on March 17, 2021 by the Court of Milan in the OPL 245 Nigeria bribery trial (alongside Royal Dutch Shell and 13 individuals) concerning the USD 1.3 billion 2011 acquisition of Nigerian Offshore Oil Prospecting License 245 from Malabu Oil & Gas (Dan Etete-controlled); Italian Assistant Attorney General Celestina Gravina waived appeal on July 19, 2022, making the acquittals definitive, and a March 2026 Eni-Nigeria settlement converted OPL 245 into PMLs 102/103 and PPLs 2011/2012.
