As of 2022, United Rentals has made progress in its Climate Action Plan by expanding its carbon footprint measurement to include Scope 3 emissions and developing a GHG abatement plan. The company has achieved a 16.8% reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions intensity across Scopes 1, 2, and third-party hauling within Scope 3 compared to its 2018 baseline, progressing toward its 35% reduction target by 2030. The Sustainability Steering Committee (SteerCo) has been instrumental in these efforts, enhancing the company's approach to sustainability and embedding it into its business strategy. The SteerCo also led efforts to expand sustainable product offerings, specifically low- and zero-emissions equipment.
