Snap became carbon neutral in 2021 by calculating and offsetting all its scope 1 and 2 emissions and a significant portion of its scope 3 emissions, going back to Snap's founding in 2011 through the end of 2020. For emissions in 2022 that remained after reductions, Snap purchased carbon credits to fully compensate for these emissions. Snap has become net negative for its scope 1 and 2 emissions and has begun incorporating carbon removals into its carbon credit portfolio for scope 3 emissions, with plans to increase these purchases to 100% removal credits by 2030. The company acknowledges the unpredictability of the carbon removal market and the challenges in calculating relevant indirect emissions, indicating a need to potentially revisit its climate commitments as conditions change.
